PINK DIAMOND and Other Essays

Why should you read this book, a collection of essays on diverse topics? Why read any essay for that matter? An essay helps us to make sense of our world, to know, comprehend, and contemplate. An essay helps us to grow.
Why have I written these essays? For the same reason that Forster had mentioned. ‘How do I know what I think until I see what I say?’ asked E.M. Forster. When not reading fiction, I love to read a good essay, and when not weaving tales, I love to write essays. When a topic interests me, it entices me to learn more about it, to think and structure my thoughts, and present it in a manner that might engage the reader. Why would any reader, however seriously inclined, read something dull and boring?
How are these essays different from the hundreds of essays available daily for free in digital form for anywhere anytime consumption? The essays written for daily consumption have a limited shelf life of a day because mint-fresh essays on the same matter would be available in plenty tomorrow. The daily essays are also written in a great rush to beat the deadline, and must have their say within 500 or 1000 words assigned for the designated column. Mercifully, I am not under those constraints and compulsions, and hence a few essays are long, and a few others are short. Some I wrote several months ago, and some recently. Also, I had the luxury of mulling over a topic for weeks or months in certain cases to finalize my say. I hope that this book brings a richer, more engaging offering to the readers.
